Is XoftSpySE Anti Spyware a Scam?  Is it Safe to Install?  Any Complaints?

There are a couple of reports from comsumers that XoftSpy has removed useful system files while failing to detect some threats:

“After running XoftSpySE and RegCure my computer run even worse. When I booted I got errors to the point I couldn’t boot. It took me two days to fix what their software did. It removed necessary files from my computer which are needed to run.”  — Actual Consumer Comments from RipoffReport[dot]com

“So I spent my money (about $30), installed the license and ran the software. After about 10 attempts, it failed to remove the adware. I sent all the information and the log files to their Support and had no response. So I sent another email to their customer service requesting some help, and still no response. Meanwhile, I managed to find another free software which I could download which actually removed my adware.”  — Actual Consumer Comments from Complaints[dot]com

Customers have also reported that this software have failed to detect some of the viruses on their systems.

However, based on customer feedback and the personal experience of one of our reviewers (who has been using this product for the past 3 years), Norton Antispyware is safe to install.

Pros:

-Norton Antivirus is certified by both West Coast Labs (check here) and Virus Bulletin (check here – Symantec Antivirus is halfway down the page), both being highly respected companies that tests and certifies malware removal software in accordance very stringent standards.

-AV Comparatives, another renowned and highly-regarded independent tester of malware removal software, found Symantec Antivirus to have a whopping 98.4% malware detection rate and a scanning speed of 17.2 Mb/s (which is the second fastest of all software they’ve tested).  Norton Antispyware was awarded the AV Comparatives Advanced+ Award, which is the highest-level award that can be earned.  (see the pdf report here.).

Is SpyZooka a Scam?  Is SpyZooka Safe to Install?  Any Complaints?

Negative consumer comments on this software can be found all over the net.  Many even go as far as saying that SpyZooka is a rogue software (i.e. one that reports a bunch of false threats and then pretends to “remove” them to appear useful).  Please see the Customer Feedback section below for more details.

To be fair, there is no actual proof that SpyZooka is a rogue program.  Although it was once listed as such by Spyware Warrior (recognized by many as an authority on their assessment of anti-malware software), it was delisted in 2005 due to improvements in the software.  Specifically, Spyware Warrior had this to say about  SpyZooka:

“Spyzooka was listed on this page because of concerns with false positives and the nature of its detections. In early March 2005, a new version of Spyzooka was released. Testing with this new version indicates that the problems with earlier versions have been satisfactorily resolved. Thus, we can no longer consider Spyzooka to be “rogue/suspect” anti-spyware.”

We’ve placed all the facts before you – now you make the final decision on what you think of this software.

Pros:

-SpyZooka guarantees 100% spyware removal.  It is sold through Clickbank, which is a reputable payment processing company.  You can always get an unconditional refund from Clickbank within 60 days if you’re not satisfied.

-A free scan is available for download from this page. Continue reading »

Is Spy No More a Scam?  Is It Safe to Install?  Any Complaints?

We’ve found some consumer complaints against SpyNoMore.  Some consumers even went as far as to say that this software is a scam and a rogue software (i.e. software that pretends to have found “threats” and then proceed to “remove” them, without actually doing anything useful).

However, to be fair, although SpyNoMore used to be listed as a rogue software by Spyware Warrior, it has since been de-listed.  This is what Spyware Warrior has to say about the delisting:

“SpyNoMore was listed on this page because of concerns with false positives. Testing with the latest version of the program  indicates that the problems with earlier versions have been satisfactorily resolved. Thus, we can no longer consider SpyNoMore to be “rogue/suspect” anti-spyware.”

A check on this software using Virus Total (click here) found SpyNoMore to be adware.  Also, a poster on the MyWOT[dot]com forum found that “Malwarebytes detects it as (Rouge.Spynomore)” (see here).

Also, some people have reported trouble in trying to uninstall SpyNoMore (see “Customer Feedback” section below).

You can find some actual consumer feedback in the “Customer Feedback” section below.

We have laid out everything we’ve found about this software – now you be the judge.

Pros:

-Spy No More is sold through Clickbank, a reputable 3rd party payment processor that handles payments and will always refund your money unconditionally within 60 days.  You won’t even need to go to the company that created Spy No More to get a refund. Continue reading »
